Today at school is Special Persons Day for both boys. Aunt B and Uncle T will be heading off to school for an appearance in the little guys classroom from 9 until 9:30 and then the oldest ones from 9:30 to 10. Both boys are thrilled they’re coming.
Mom works from 7:15 until 2:30 while I need to be in Boulder by 9am. Lot’s going on around here trying to get ready to leave in about a week. The misses and I picked up the boys at 2:45 yesterday and came home to begin their homework. Once that was finished they headed outside for some exercise. The man up the street who must be in his mid-thirties, just got out of the hospital. He had (or still has) some kind of virus that the doctors couldn’t find that was pretty serious. He was in ICU for 2 days and is now told he cannot raise his heart rate for a month! I guess he could have died. We asked him what he had and if it was contagious and he said the doctors don’t know what it was or if he’s still contagious. What? Here’s this guy hanging out on the street with all the neighborhood kids who could potentially be contagious? What’s he thinking? Upon hearing this, the misses and I called both boys home and told them in no uncertain terms to stay away from him. This was made more difficult by him walking down the street with his 4 year old and hanging out on our sidewalk while all the kids play. I had to bite my tongue to stop from telling him to get away from the kids. Some people just don’t have much common sense. Next up our next door neighbor tells us his wife Dee has some elevated enzymes or something in her liver and has to have a biopsy next month. They keep her awake, have her take a big breath in, hold it and then puncture her with a huge needle right into her liver! He said one of the big worries is that people that have this procedure often have ongoing pain from it for the rest of their life. We’re hoping she’s ok.
Now what does this all mean to you and I? Well it means life’s short, don’t waste any time and cherish each day. In this vein, the misses and I are really questioning how we want to spend the rest of our life. What I mean here is how do we want the kids to grow up and how do we want to grow old. We’re not sure we want to just keep toiling away at our same old jobs and end up living in this house, just getting by, doing the same thing for the next 20 years. Another consideration is whether or not my Company is going to “break out” of where we are now. Yes I own a lot of stock (I’m worth millions on paper but you can’t eat that!) but this “just getting by” thing each year is not cutting it. We do have a national launch of our Andrea Bocelli brand in Costco November 1st which everyone thinks (hopes) will be a big success and take us to the next level. The misses and I decided about a month ago we’d give it until about mid 2012 and if things are not really headed up, I would then seriously consider some new opportunities. I do have some offers from time to time from different companies in and out of my industry. I’ve always been self employed and am not really afraid of starting something new. They (the smart people) say the future is in agriculture and energy. We’ve been told we’re crazy but we’d love to live on some sort of farm or ranch where we can raise animals and have a more full filling life where you actually produce something tangible. U.S. beef exports are up a bunch and prices are up 20%! There’s also a huge demand for beef raised without antibiotics from small ranchers rather than the big feed lot companies that cannot control the health of their cattle. Now don’t worry, we don’t think this can support a living but we’d love to live that lifestyle. If we lived in Europe, we’d have vineyards for sure. Who knows, the way the country and the economy is going, we might not have any choice and we all might be forced into this type of lifestyle, like it or not. Anyhow, we’ll keep you posted.
So don’t freak out but I can tell you one thing, we won’t be sitting here doing the same thing this time next year if things are not a whole lot better. Times a wasting, as they say.
Take care, God Bless and have a great day,
