What nice friends

We finally left Denver at 11:30 and pulled into Aspen at 2:45. We found Greg and Billie’s house right away and unloaded all our stuff. We sure have a lot of stuff for 4 people for 3 nights. Despite bringing everything but the kitchen sink, we still forgot toothpaste and the misses forgot pajamas. Let me tell you one thing right now, kids watermelon toothpaste sucks! As for pajamas, the misses stole my boxer shorts and a t shirt.

Billie had invited about 10 people over to join us for dinner to meet us unbeknownst to us. It was quite a group including a really nice guy ( and his girlfriend from Sarasota Florida whose has been Billies friend for 30 years) from Wichita Kansas who reminded me of my dad, John Denver’s manager and wife (he also managed Duke Ellington and others), a couple from Vail who knows just about everyone we know, hard to believe we never met, Diane, who is staying here with Greg and Billie also (her dad was Director of the CIA during the Kennedy administration and she was a top model in the 60’s and 70’s) and our hosts, Greg and Billie. The house is unbelievable, it’s hard to describe as it’d take me forever to explain everything but downstairs is a media room with a giant big screen that’s like a movie theater. It’s so much like a theater that they have long red curtains that open to reveal the screen. The art is amazing, they have at least half a dozen Andy Warhol’s, signed and all. The other art was great too but I didn’t recognize any of it.

Our dinner was fun, lots of old stories and I forgot, a guy joined us who is the spitting image of John Denver. He sings and does shows around the country I guess, and was pretty good. Anyhow we had a blast, lots of fun stories and good company. At dinner, Billie who is so sweet, toasted to us as their new best friends. She again promised to make sure the boys get into this school where the most influential family’s in the country send their kids for a bit in high school. Who knows what’ll happen in 4 or 5 years but there not the kind of people that say things just to say things. She was so sweet to the boys who were so well mannered. Greg gave them a few chores  like fixing the flag out front that was twisted from the wind and then high fived Jag with both hands.

Tomorrow they’re hosting a brunch right on Main Street at an Asian Fusion restaurant that they booked right on the parade route. Billie is insisting we join them which we will, she’s made special arrangements for the boys. They have another party they want us to go to with them tomorrow night but I said we were just going to hang out with the boys at the hotel. We’ll see them again the next night at our big party.

So lots of fun, the weather is perfect and there was a nice rain shower in the afternoon. It’s really beautiful up here and everyone is so kind to us. Hope everyone has a great 4th, here’s a comment from Aunt Robi,

Robi says:

HAPPY 4TH TO ALL! I am attempting to make an apple pie tonight to go along with our hot dogs tomorrow. We will be substituting beer for baseball but hey, 2 outta 3 ain’t bad! BE SAFE!

Take care and God Bless everyone and God Bless the United States of America!
