Snow in them there hills

That’s right, on my way up into the mountains yesterday I hit the first snow (for me anyhow) of the season. Coming down the pass I saw a little import car (think it was a Subaru driven by a democrat) that spun out into the median and then a semi jack knifed to avoid it blocking I 70. Thankfully it was cleared up by the time I headed for home a little after 10am.

Ty stayed home not feeling well but I think (or hope) he’s on the mend. Today we’re getting a new bed delivered! We just couldn’t hold out anymore and were able to get zero percent interest for 12 months so although we avoid any new debt like the plague, we had to get one. They threw in a new 32 inch tv that we really don’t need but we get it anyhow. Hopefully tonight we’ll be sleeping like babies!

It’s cool outside this morning, in the 30’s. I need to run to the gym so that’s about it. I ordered up a bunch of chicken and beef from our local meat market yesterday that they’ll custom cut and pack and freeze for us. I just need a few more things and I should be good to go through the winter. As soon as everyone is feeling better around here it’ll be time for flu shots. Everyone is worried about ebola (rightly so, now two cases they think in Texas and one in Hawaii???) but the flu kills over 10,000 people a year! So go get those shots.

If you’ve noticed, I’m trying not to lecture you on what you need to do so hope you’re thinking on your own. The point is, I’m not advocating that you just go out and buy a few things for the problem du jour, on the contrary, I’m suggesting you have a philosophy like your parents or probably grandparents did. I’ll bet my Mom, or Annette and Dixie’s Moms both had a root cellar with canned foods and all kinds of staples (another word for supplies) around the house. You see in those days they had to fend for themselves as there was either no store close, no money to buy things or better yet, it was just what everyone did, a way of life. Today though we’ve evolved into this instant gratification convenience oriented society dependent on being able to run down to the corner store and get back home in 5 minutes with whatever we need. Well, I’m afraid that through some event, (the economy, a pandemic, a terrorist event, etc.), this is sometime soon going to change. So stop being so dependent on others and learn to take care of yourself. By the way, the wife wants to take welding classes and I’m checking into blacksmith classes, sounds fun huh! So in general, people and society is weak, weaker than ever before. If anything ever does happen, 90% of the people wouldn’t have a clue what to do. Just look at the news from events like a bad storm or hurricane, grocery and hardware store shelves are bare and people are standing around waiting for the government to come and save them. Well all I can say is good luck with that one! Enough said, you’re on your own now. If/By the time something does happen, and then you see I’m right, it’ll be too late!

Time to run so I can get to the gym, no raccoons this morning. I scanned the backyard with a high powered flashlight before letting the big dog out. I think I’ll leave him in while I go to the gym.

Take care and God Bless.
