Time sure goes fast, hard to believe today’s post is number 650! Hope you’ve enjoyed them.
The misses head (and she hates me to write this) is just killing her. The doctor said it would be worse for 4 to 6 weeks but she had no idea it would be this bad. There’s nothing we can do about it which is so frustrating. She gets no sleep and no break during the day. The only consolation is this is supposed to end in a few more weeks, they better be right. I feel worthless as there’s nothing I can do to help her, it’s a bad situation.
Yesterday we did go to a small town near Boulder to reconnect with one of my close friends who owns a few restaurants. First we stopped at our friends farm and picked up boxes of beets, carrots, chard, arugula, spinach, lettuce, onions and garlic. All were picked early in the morning and are so fresh it’s amazing. We also grabbed a few of the remaining tomato’s (most were killed during the freeze last week) and some pea tendrils. These are the top shoots off pea plants that taste so good. The misses and her friend are canning beets later this week.
Tomorrow is field day for the oldest and Friday is his brothers. Both boys are excited. The misses has an appointment at the dermatologist on Thursday at lunch as they called her wanting to discuss her proposal to remodel their office. You might remember she gave them a proposal a few months ago. It’ll be nice if this job comes through.
After loading up at the farm we went to Brad’s restaurant in Niwot for a leisurely lunch outside which included risotto with pork belly, tuscan bean soup, fresh greens sauteed in garlic and oil and some fantastic gluten free desserts. Throw in a bottle of nice white wine and it was a lunch that reminded us of being in Europe in the fall. We normally don’t have wine during the middle of the day but anything to help the misses head.
We made it home to be greeted by a message that they moved the time from 11am to 4pm, when they were putting Bunkie down. The misses thought she should go but didn’t want to as it would upset her. I stepped in and told her of she didn’t want to be there, don’t go. This was the best decision for her and she stopped by afterwards to offer her sympathy. Here’s a comment from Grandma Annette who just went through the same thing.
Glad to hear you are sort of taking it easy. Tell June I’m sorry. I know how she feels. I really miss Bettie Mae when I come home and the house is empty.
Oh well, life goes on. Funny how fleeting life is. When someone we love passes, we mourn  but then have to get right back up on the horse of life and carry on. The only thing we have left then is the memories. Once again, it just goes to show you, don’t take life for granted and enjoy each and every single day.
Yesterday another murder or two here in town and a few other violent crimes dominating the news. Denver has become as dangerous as cities like L.A. or Chicago. I suppose it always has been like this but is just now more obvious with that poor little girl being kidnapped and dismembered so close to us. We drove right past the place they found her yesterday on the way to and from Boulder. On top of that, the school sent home a letter that on the edge of the school grounds there was a man taking pictures of a 13 year old girl and the next day he approached her! On our school grounds! Now we have multiple police cars cruising the parking lot each day when the kids are let out. Lot’s of kids are terrified about this and all the talk of predators. It’s sad our kids, or any kid, has to worry about this at their age. The misses and I look at each other and say, when we hear these things, that we have to get out of here! It’s a sort of joke but you know how there’s always some truth in humor. Sooner or later, we will be moving to the mountains or at least a smaller community. Not any time soon though as we want to be close to my Mom.
It’s almost 7m and the youngest and I are downstairs. The misses is still in bed, hopefully getting a little sleep but I doubt it. Time for me to get the oldest guy up and then make them some breakfast. The heater guy comes today and we had the sprinkler guy here yesterday blowing out the sprinkler lines so they don’t freeze this winter. Just more stuff to do on top of everything else.
Hope everyone is well, take care, stay safe and have a great day.
The Misses here…..While we were watching the Presidential Debate last night, the youngest was listening in and said, “You know, the President is trying so heard because his first job was as an ice cream scooper.” I replied, “How do you know his first job was scooping ice cream?” The youngest with a twinkle in his eyes answered with, “Mommy, I read….maybe you should try it sometime .” Â Oh, how that munchkin makes me laugh. Â Just thought I would share my favorite portion of the debate.
