Ok, the first part of today’s post is more about life and what’s really important rather than what we did yesterday. If you want to skip down to the bottom you can skip this part.
In the past few days we’ve run across a bunch of individual life stories that puts things in perspective. From the local pastor losing his daughter in a car accident on the way back from Lake Powell or George our neighbor who we found out last night is in remission from leukemia, and his wife who had seven stiches from a bicycle accident where she was lucky she didn’t get a brain injury to even Lori fighting her headache on a daily basis, buying the biggest house or fanciest car don’t really mean much. Sure we all need money to pay the daily bills, especially these days with gas around $4.50 a gallon (imagine if Trump was in office, the news would be all over him) and the rising cost of food, energy, and just about anything else you can think of. Fyi, our water bill this month was $655.65! But the big take away is how are you going to spend your day and live your life, today? George, our neighbor who had leukemia says he now wakes up thinking about how he can be kind today and how he can help people and make the World around him a better place. Imagine if everyone thought this way, what a better World we’d have, right? To his credit, being older, he stopped taking life for granted a long time ago, but still, something like leukemia has to be a shock to the system. So how about today instead of being a roadblock to someone’s troubles, let’s each of us go out of our way to help someone who doesn’t expect it. Open a door for a stranger, buy the person behind you a coffee, do something unexpected for your husband or wife, pick up some trash you see on the ground, anything to make the Universe a better place. Trust me, not only will it make the World around you better but you’ll feel so good inside. Life is too fucking short as it is, make a difference for someone and for yourself.
Now to the day. Lori went and had a massage and then had a doctor appointment for her concussion from on the airplane about 18 months ago when a passenger dropped a suitcase on her head and knocked her out. We might need an attorney as they have been unresponsive. After that we headed up to George and Kasia’s house (our neighbors) for her party outside. There were maybe 30 neighbors, a lot we didn’t really know. So it was a good get together where we all got to know each other a bit more. We stayed until around 9 when the mosquito’s became more active. Jag and Katy came up at the end and then I gave them a credit card to run down the hill for some dinner. Earlier in the day we went to the gym and then bought Lori some flowers for the house. She loves her flowers and so do I.
Tonight we have a dinner party with 12 people at Gerry and Marcy’s house in Lake Creek. I think tomorrow we’ll just hang out. We were thinking of going to Aspen for a party but I think we’ll hang. Monday we’re all off which is nice. Lori is making her Basque cheesecake to take tonight so I need to run to the store to get the stuff. I think Ty is going elk hunting with James, his son Castor and I, the week before Labor Day weekend. We’re going to Utah this year.
That’s it, time to get moving. Enjoy the weekend and surprise someone with an unexpected gesture of kindness! God Bless.
