Ground Stop in NY

Do you know what that means? It’s pretty self explanatory but just so we’re all clear, it means the airport in NY was shut down. No planes leaving or arriving. I guess there was a lot of fog as I was supposed to take off at 8:36am but sat and sat at the gate until around 10am when they announced another new departure time of 11:06. This would have put me in NY around 4:45 and I had a 4pm meeting in the city. My associate would have waited for me (I would have got into the city by about 6), but he had a dinner meeting he had to leave for at 6:30. So, I went straight over to the customer service counter, chatted up the lady in charge and persuaded her to change my ticket to November 29th with no $150 change fee. I was home by 11 and had 2 hours before a conference call with NY since I wouldn’t be there in person. The rest of the day was spent catching up on paperwork and cleaning the house as everyone thought I was out of town.

I picked up the boys at 2:45 and dropped off the oldest at the elderly neighbors house down the street as he had called and asked if our guy wanted to rake some more leaves. He worked hard for two hours, with the old man and filled 12 bags that were stuffed full of leaves. He was paid $1 per bag which really was a lot of work as the man kept compressing the leaves as much as he could into each bag. Anyhow he made it home by 5 with cold fingers and was tired but worked hard with no complaining. It’s good to learn a good work ethic at a young age. I think he has about $175 saved from various jobs around the neighborhood and extra chores around the house. Meanwhile the youngest guy and I did homework and started dinner to prepare for Mom coming home around 5:30. She got off a few minutes early as she arrived home around 5:15. The rest of the evening was pretty uneventful and everyone was in bed by 9.

Thanks to those of you that have been commenting, here’s one from Grandma Annette yesterday,

Annette says:

Ok,ok Aunt Jean and I are reading the blog everyday. I ‘m hooked on ancestry.com thanks to my friend in the DAR and I spent 16 hrs. on the computer over the week-end. I usually read about 3 books a week and haven’t read 1 this week. I found out a lot of history. My great, great, great grandfather was the 6th Sheriff of San Jose and Santa Clara CA.1861-1864. I will send all the information when I get it together. Love you guys, think about you all every day.

For those of you who don’t know, Aunt Jean is her sister. Pretty interesting about her great grandfather, we can’t wait to get all the details. Thanks for commenting.

Today we have a lot to do around here. I’m not sure what our weekend plans are but next week is a busy one, more on that later. Hope everyone is well, take care, keep commenting and God Bless,
