What a whirlwind trip….two nights, two days and a years worth of emotions all wrapped up in 48 hours.
My dad looks better than I expected…a bit jaundice and his eyes didn’t have the usual sparkle that I am accustomed to seeing. Â We had a busy first day with him getting all of his affairs in order. He wants to make sure that if something does happen to him the transition will go as smoothly as possible.
He has a lot of family photos dating all the way back to the late 1800’s, a wonderful journal that he wrote in 1946…complete with photos and postcards, a paper that I wrote about “My Favorite Place” dated 1976 and some very unique duck decoys…one of which is made of canvas and was originally a decoy that my grandfather used as a boy. We managed to bring all of these things home with us…the Viking helmets that he picked up in Norway will have to be shipped or delivered via Grandma D’s and Grandpa D’s caravan….aka….1987 Motor home.
We had a really nice lunch on the Sacramento River with my Dad and his wife….great food and conversation, the boys were well behaved and entertained with the boats passing by and all of the logs…trees that were floating down the river. After lunch we stopped at the candy store, (there was a guy handing out tickets for free samples of candy) as my husband says, “The first hit is free”. Scary, but oh so true!! We walked around Old Town stopped at a costume shop…Halloween is fast approaching…picked up a few items for costumes and decorations for the boy’s “Pirate Themed” school dance… and heade back to our cars. Of course we stopped for ice cream cones along the way.
By the time we returned to my mom’s house the boys were on quite the sugar high, so much so that my mom called one of her dear, dear friends with a pool to see if we could bring the kiddos over to try to wear them down…hurray….success on both accounts….her friend said “Yes” and the boys swam for well over 2 hours straight. We had to literally drag them out of the pool. Once home to mom’s the mister and I headed off to Whole Foods for some grub to cook.  We chose fresh Halibut, asparagus, brown rice and a strawberry short cake.  Dinner was good…company was better…we played a few hands of bridge and headed off to bed.
Up at 4:22 a.m. on the plane at 7:00a.m. touched down and drove home by 11:00a.m.
Time to unpack and clean house…the neighbor just drove by and L.O.L. can’y get her portable oxygen tank to fill, so I am off do do that.
Auntie B took great care of the dogs as always and as always I think that the dogs are sorry to see us home.
Love to all and God Bless
