OMG, 32 wines

The day was a blur with everyone rushing here and there. I don’t really remember a whole lot (old age, ha ha) but the oldest and I were downtown until around 4pm. Before that I had a few other errands (I do remember, ha ha ) before we rushed out the door to the big wine dinner in Boulder.

We arrived around 6:20 as when I called the restaurant they said it started at 6pm. Turns out it started at 6:30pm so we were first to arrive. We hate being first! Anyhow the evening started off with gorgeous french champagne (the misses and I tried to spit all night long but couldn’t on the champagne) and everyone floated in over the next 10-15 minutes. Bruce, our host from Travel and Leisure magazine seated us all and the over serving began.

There were 32 wines for about 20 people and it seemed like they would never end. The food was great except for the main course as they delayed it after they cooked it to let us get through more wines. This resulted in over cooked salmon, pork or whatever you ordered. I don’t know how many of you have been to a wine tasting but even if you spit each and every wine, the alcohol absorbs through your cheeks and after 20 or so wines, you’re still getting some of the affect. The other problem is after 15 or 20 wines (especially if they’re big reds) your pallet is just overwhelmed and wiped out. This is of course what happened.

On the other hand, lots of nice important influential people, much more so than us but everyone seemed really interested in who we were and what we were all about. Must have been the misses fantastic yellow dress! Everyone will be calling us in Aspen to get together and try more of our wines. Lots of guests were PR people for various companies. Others were top chefs. One girl, is the PR Director for my largest competitor from New York and her card says Director of Public Relations PHD. I mean how do you even get a PHD in PR? Anyhow it was fun but it was work. We left around 9:45 so it was a 3 1/2 hour event. By 10:15 we were thankfully home.

Aleks (our winemaker from Slovenia) lands this morning at 10 so lots going on. We have an industry lunch at 1 and then I think I’ll have a sales rep take him around until the dinner at 6 so In have a few hours to get some work done. The misses has a girls lunch at the other neighborhood pool with some friends and their kids. She (we) also need to get all packed for the trip to Aspen tomorrow.

So, time to run, I have to get to the gym before heading to the airport. Hope all’s well, no politics today as I don’t have the time.

Best,
